Author and podcast host Mel Robbins is the ultimate self-help guru to millions. She has gone beyond Rhonda Byrne’s The Secret and Tony Robbins motivational books & seminars (presumably no relation)and reached into the minds of the everyday regular person trying to cope with life.
One of her most popular theories is the ‘Let Them’ theory. This was the subject of her first book that sold over 6 million copies in the first six months (& well on the way to being the best non-fiction book launch of all time). When you think about it, most of us already have had this theory inherently wired in our brains. How many times have we heard ourselves say ‘Let them' with the added 'Off!’ when trying to disregard those who criticise or undermine us? But Mel Robbins has the gift of relating this similar ethos to the world through repetitive articulation and the self assurance that she’s right.
The basic theory explores how much time and energy people waste worrying about what people think. Mel explores how we often feel annoyed, frustrated, stressed out or worried about a situation or another person. She believes that none of us can control what other people think or how they behave. But repeating these two words gives back control and releases negative energy that would otherwise fester inside.
Do I think this works? Yes I do... I have listened to some of Mel Robbins podcasts and interviews and I find a lot of what she promotes over the top or just not all that relevant to me. But if you can manage to extract what you need from her many online interviews, podcasts, books and hundreds of social media posts, you might find yourself standing a bit taller & getting on with what truly matters in life.
