HRT Free For Women

The term "menopause" comes from the Greek words "meno" (month) and "pausis" (end). I think it's the 'end' part some women struggle with along with the discomfort it can bring. Thankfully some good news was announced recently that will make many women feel happy.

From 1st June, Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) will be free for women in Ireland who suffer from menopausal and perimenopausal symptoms. Although GP visits to receive prescriptions will still be a cost, this is one giant step forward for women's health.

After further negotiations between the Department of Health and the Irish Pharmacy Union over the last few weeks, pharmacies were offered an agreed dispensing fee and increased one-off grant to participate in the scheme, which finally sealed the deal. The initiative that was scheduled to launch earlier in the year, will officially commence in June. And with many additional pharmacies now coming on board, there should be one available near you.

The HSE have stated that they will have a ‘Find A Pharmacy’ search tool on their website in the coming weeks.
